The procedures for the establishment of the Hotel Asia Center of Japan were completed on September 20, 1957. It was created to address the need for economic and technological cooperation between the Asian countries in the aftermath of World War II by welcoming trainees from the region into Japan in addition to forming a space to improve understanding and friendship between the Asian peoples.
Ever since its opening, the hotel has demonstrated its uniqueness and served as an important hub for international projects including hosting Colombo Plan and UN-related engineering students, hosting international conferences for the WHO and ILO, and hosting meetings for significant government officials and ambassadors. Since trainee lodging numbers and international conferences decreased, significantly reducing guest numbers. However, with the Tokyo Olympics that took place October 1964, the facility resumed full operations.
After the Olympics, the hotel gained new guests from the general public after its multifaceted operations became more well-known. Additional facilities were added to the property in 1961, 1964, 1973, and 1998. The main building was rebuilt in 2003, and all buildings underwent major renovations in 2015. Currently, the facility consists of 175 guest rooms, five conference rooms, and a restaurant.
